I can describe Picacho Peak in one
word: AMAZING!
Hiking was my favorite part of our trip. I
will write down what we did from the
beginning:
I was really excited to go to Picacho Peak.
I took a bunch of pictures of the mountains on
the way to the park. Then we saw a
mountain that looked like a volcano.
It was Picacho Peak!
My little sister and I were really happy
when we got to the park. Before entering the
park, we stopped at The Arizona Nut House.
I didn't buy anything (maybe next time)
but I DID get to try some Honey roasted
almonds!!! (DELICIOUS). I took a few pictures
of my little sis there before we left.
Then we got to the entrance to the park
and the women that let us in was nice. we
parked our car after we had passed a sign
that said Children's Cave (my little sis and I
were excited about that).
When we began our hike, we saw two
different trail signs. I wanted to take
the one called Hunter Trail (IT LEADS TO THE
TOP OF Picacho Peak!!!). But my dad didn't want
to walk two miles, so we took the Calloway
Trail. We saw LOTS of cool things (Like a
Lizard and Rock that had a face. I GOT PICTURES
OF BOTH!). We passed by the Nature Trail,
But decided to keep going on the Calloway
Trail. And OF COURSE, my dad HAD to be the
Leader, because of "snakes." We didn't see even
ONE snake, so he used that excuse to be leader.
(He REALLY likes being Important) and he HAD to
stop EVERY SINGLE SECOND to check for
"snakes"!
But back to the trail (it has a GREAT VIEW
BTW). As we got further up, WE SPOTTED
CHIPMUNKS!!! (They are WAY cuter in real
life!). We also saw some birds on the way
up. Then we FINALLY reached the top! (dad is
SLOW) and we sat on a bench and drank some
water. I also took some family pictures.
We had an AWESOME VIEW. I never knew that
it looks like cars go slow on the freeway if
you're up high.
When we decided to go back down the trail, I
was SO shocked when dad told me I could be the
leader! (maybe there were snakes . . . NAAHHH
dad just liked being leader). It was
really fun on the way down (mostly because I
got to be the leader). My mom sprained
her ankle on the way down so we had stop for a
few minutes, but her ankle got better
fast. We went on the same bridge that we took
going up (I got a few pictures of it).
When we got back down to the parking area,
we drove over to the Children's Cave! My
little sis and I were REALLY excited to go up
the new trail. But, dad was tired, so he
didn't come up with us. when we got to the top,
there really WAS a cave!!!! (my little sis
loved it). On the way back down, I was so
tired that I almost fell a couple of
times. When we got down, we ran over to the
park. it was SO COOL there!!!!
The park had these AWESOME swings that
didn't look like normal swings, but like the
seats of a ride at the amusement park! My
dad said he remembered those type
of swings as a kid, so he taught us
how to use them. They are a lot like a
workout, you pull on the bars when you want to
go forward, and push them when you want to go
back. After awhile pulling got harder, so I
just moved my legs back and forth to move like
a normal swing.
We drove around after that to look at the
rest of the park, and we saw two
Bunny's. By the time we drove to the end
of the park, it was sunset. The sunset was
beautiful, so I took a bunch of pictures.
We left after that and went to the AWESOME
ostrich farm that was close by the
park!!!!!!! It was closed (which was
disappointing), but we looked over the
fence, and saw the ostriches. They were REALLY
cool and came close to us (they thought we were
going to feed them). After that we had to go
home. It was PERFECT timing when my
camera's batteries stopped working, because I
wasn't using the camera anymore.
This trip was a REALLY fun adventure
(if I climb up a mountain, it's an adventure!).
I hope to go again soon when my brother comes
to visit from California so he can come
too.
